Your guests shoot more content in your properties every weekend than your team shoots all quarter — build the system that captures, clears, and reuses it.
A small card by the coffee maker: “Shot something great? Tag @you or drop it here” with a QR to a simple upload form. Put it where the phones already are — the hot tub view, the game room, the sunset deck.
A monthly “guest shot of the month” with a modest reward — a bottle of wine on the next stay, a late checkout — beats begging. Winners get featured; features get shared; the flywheel spins. Running a giveaway (see the Social Ads playbook)? Offer bonus entries for a photo-or-video submission with a rights checkbox — the same campaign grows the list and stocks the content library, with a review queue filtering the misses.
The upload form includes a plain-English usage grant; for tagged posts, ask in the comments (“Love this — OK if we share it to our page with credit?”) and screenshot the yes. Credit every use, every time.
Tag UGC by property, season, and type alongside staff-shot clips. UGC fills the authenticity tier of the content mix — the algorithm and the audience both trust it more than polish.
Real guest photos on property pages lift conversion; UGC clips make the best-performing ad creative on Meta almost universally; a wall of guest shots is social proof in owner pitches too.
One link, one ask. The review request goes to every departing direct-booked guest 2–24 hours after checkout, by text where you have their consent, with the direct review link and nothing else attached — bundling it with a photo request, a rebooking code and a social follow lowers completion on all of them. The photo ask comes about a week later, once the review is in or forgotten: “loved having you — got a shot you’d let us share?” The guest who shares a photo is exactly the guest who left five stars; you just don’t ask for both at once. One exception rules the whole sequence: Airbnb guests review on Airbnb. Airbnb’s off-platform policy bars asking them to review the stay on another site and bars using their contact details for marketing — the in-stay card is your only photo ask for those guests.
When an enthusiast group books a full-property buyout and brings its own photographer — car clubs, reunions, retreats do this constantly — ask for marketing usage rights DURING the stay, while goodwill is at its peak. One operator got a professional shoot’s worth of unrestricted images from a classic-car club weekend, free.
Design the QR capture card this week and put it in your five most-booked properties before the weekend turnover.
This is the exact kind of work we do for vacation rental brands every day. Bring us the property mix and the market — we’ll bring the system.
