The Featured-Property Press Play

Your most remarkable property is a story local media and design blogs want to run — pitch it and earn the links a “great content” strategy never gets.

Run this when

The play

  1. Pick the property with a story

Scan the portfolio for hooks: the priciest listing in the county, the converted fire tower, the cabin with the record-setting waterslide, the cottage a magazine would call “charming.” One remarkable property beats ten nice ones — media needs an angle, not an average.

  2. Build a mini press kit

One page or PDF: 8–12 great photos cleared for press use, five factual bullets (size, location, the hook, nightly rate range, booking link), and two quotable lines from the owner or your team. Make running the story effortless.

  3. Pitch local first

Local radio station sites, TV stations, and city magazines constantly need light local features — “Look inside the most expensive rental home in [county]” is a proven format. Find the reporter who covers real estate or lifestyle and send three sentences plus the kit link.

  4. Then pitch the nationals by niche

Home-and-design publications and travel blogs run “inside this cabin” galleries year-round. Match the property to the outlet’s beat: design blogs want interiors, travel outlets want the destination angle, news sites want the superlative.

  5. Ask for the link like a grown-up

The ask: credit the photos to the property’s page on your site. Most outlets link naturally when the kit makes attribution easy; a polite follow-up recovers half the ones that don’t.

  6. Collect and reuse every placement

Save every live placement in a swipe file: it’s your model for the next pitch, social proof for your homepage (“as featured in”), and — for owner marketing — evidence of the exposure you get for the homes you manage.

  7. Run the local-relevance layer year-round

Between press wins, build links from businesses your guests actually use: wine tours, private chefs, tour operators, the Chamber, the CVB’s “where to stay” pages. Two quality floors, not one: genuinely local and relevant links (a chamber, a festival page) earn their place at DR15+; anything you pay for needs DR30+ and real traffic, one link per article — pages stuffed with five brands’ links read as a red flag to Google. Skip the open link marketplaces entirely. And budget for attrition: some placements will vanish or be quietly noindexed, so re-check every link at 12 months and make sure it’s still in the page, still indexed and still followed. A steady 1–3 relevant links a month still compounds faster than any one-off campaign.

What to expect

Timeline
Local placements can land within days of a good pitch; nationals take 2–6 weeks and several follow-ups.
Hit rate
Expect roughly 1 placement per 10 well-matched pitches. The kit quality moves this more than volume does.
Good result
2–4 real editorial links per quarter to property and market pages — links competitors buying directory listings can’t replicate. Rankings follow with the usual SEO lag.

Watch-outs

Immediate action

Write down your single most remarkable property and its one-line hook. If you can’t finish the sentence “You have to see the…” — walk the portfolio until you can.
