The Giveaway Lead Engine

“Win a free stay” lead ads build your email and SMS list faster than anything else you can run — if you design the giveaway to attract travelers instead of prize hunters.

The play

  1. Make the prize specific, not generic

“Win a 3-night midweek stay at [property] this fall” beats “win a $500 gift card” — a specific stay attracts people who actually want to visit your market, and repels the sweepstake-hunter accounts that poison giveaway lists.

  2. Run it as Meta lead ads with two qualifying questions

Instant forms keep entry friction low. Ask group size and preferred season alongside email and phone — the same trip-intent tags your popup collects (Play 11), so winners and losers alike enter the right nurture. Use confirm-click email validation on the entry tool so fake addresses die at the door, and grant bonus entries for social follows and referrals — the referral loop is where entry counts compound.

  3. Aim it at warm-plus-lookalike audiences

Instagram followers, site visitors, past-guest and WiFi lists, and lookalikes built from them. Warm-audience giveaways convert at a fraction of cold cost, and the entrants are people who already know the brand.

  4. Capture phone for the SMS list deliberately

A giveaway is the one moment travelers happily hand over a mobile number. Make SMS opt-in explicit and separate — that list powers gap-night and flash offers later.

  5. Announce the winner loudly, convert the rest

Winner announcement content is trust fuel — post it. Everyone else gets the “you didn’t win, but you can still book” sequence within 48 hours: a modest booking credit with a real deadline. That sequence, not the entry count, is where the revenue lives — breakeven on a ~$1,000 donated stay is usually just 5–6 entrant bookings. Black out peak months on the prize’s fine print so the winner redeems shoulder-season inventory.

  6. Tag the cohort and watch it for 90 days

Tag every entrant by giveaway and source (“via Meta — fall giveaway”). Judge the play on 90-day bookings and list-engagement from the cohort, not on cost per entry.

What to expect

Volume
Giveaway lead ads reliably produce entries at a fraction of standard lead cost. Live receipts: ~$400 of promotion produced 2,800 confirmed-email entrants (about $0.70 each, all-in including the donated stay), and a ~4,000-entrant giveaway went on to produce 10–12 tracked bookings across the following six months.
List quality
Lower than WiFi or popup subscribers, higher than purchased anything. The qualifying questions and specific prize are what keep it usable.
Good result
The email and SMS lists jumping a quarter’s worth of growth in two weeks, plus a consolation-offer booking bump that often covers the ad spend by itself.

Watch-outs

Immediate action

Pick the shoulder-season week you’d happily donate and draft the “win a stay” one-liner. If the prize excites you as a traveler, brief the campaign.
