Publishing Checklist For New Content

Here’s the publishing checklist and things to check for new content that that we’re publishing on client sites.

Blog Post/Page Pre Publish Checklist #

  • Content is formatted:
    • Subheading tags are used throughout the content to break up “content blocks”
    • Text is consistent throughout the document – no odd colors or alternate fonts or colors not based on previous posts
  • Title tag is added and is SEO friendly & the proper length (55-65 characters or so)
  • Meta description is added and is SEO friendly & the proper length (150-160 characters or so)
  • Images are added to the page, have proper Photo credit: mentions/links
  • Images are centered on the page and are NOT clickable
  • Internal links are added where relevant to other posts/pages on the website: typically 3-5 
  • For posts only, Categories are added. Confirm that “Uncategorized” is NOT checked. 
  • For posts only, Tags are NOT added. 
  • Blog post image is added to the Yoast (or RankMath) SEO plugin (only if a WordPress blog post) for social sharing on Facebook/Twitter
  • The “read more” tag is added after the main subheading/intro content (only if a WordPress blog post)

Post-Publish Checklist/Things To Do #

Congrats! You’ve got a new piece of content live on the internet. Now we’ve just got to index the page via Google Search Console and also make sure we’ve recorded in the clients Basecamp project.
